Marnie Giesbrecht

Marnie Giesbrecht performs as organ soloist, collaborative musician (organ, piano, harpsichord) and with Joachim Segger as Duo Majoya. Dr. Giesbrecht is Professor Emerita and University Organist at the University of Alberta and Adjunct Professor of Music at The King’s University, Edmonton.
A passionate and versatile keyboard artist Marnie Giesbrecht has performed in major cities and universities as well as at festivals throughout Canada, the United States, South Africa, Europe and Asia.  She studied at the University of Alberta (BMus piano with Ernesto Lejano); DMus organ with Gerhard Krapf), the Eastman School of Music, Rochester, N.Y (MMus piano with Barry Snyder) and the Mozarteum, Salzburg, Austria (Performance Diploma, piano with Kurt Neumüller). Dr. Giesbrecht is a church musician and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada.

Giesbrecht commissions, performs and records solo, duo and collaborative keyboard works by Canadian and international composers.

As a community builder Giesbrecht has served as local and national RCCO presidents and on organ selection/building committees including the Davis Concert Organ at the Winspear Centre in Edmonton. A founding member of Early Music Alberta, she plays harpsichord continuo and solo works for their concerts and festivals. Dr. Giesbrecht has served on national and international organ competition juries including the RCCO (Royal Canadian College of Organists) and CIOC (Canadian International Organ Competition).
